What is a PV array?

The GIS building is home to three Suncase MX 60 PV arrays: two on the upper roof, and one on the lower, green roof. The upper roof arrays can produce 20kW each; the lower roof array can produce 5kW. Each array consists of a group of 60 multicrystalline silicon cells, measuring 156x156mm each, and arranged in a 6x10 pattern.
From the inside out, PV arrays are made up of sheets of multicrystalline silicon cells, sandwiched between sheets of ethylene vinyl acetate, encased in 4mm tempered glass. A PET (polyethylene terephthalate) sheet protects the back of the module. The frame is made from anodized aluminum, which is light, non-conductive, and resistant to corrosion. (1)

due to a variety of factors including weather, an average sunny-day output is expected to be around 35-40 kW. The peak output for the PV systems occurs between 9 am and 5 pm daily, which coincides with many of the high usage times throughout the day. At certain points throughout the day, the solar performance of the arrays is able to match the lighting load for the entire GIS building.”1
